Right?<\/p>\n<p>Because even though <i>A Day at the Races<\/i> isn&#8217;t anybody&#8217;s favorite Marx Brothers film, it&#8217;s still a dang site easier to deal with on my blog than <i>Duck Soup<\/i> or <i>Horse Feathers<\/i>.<\/p><p>I mean, the last time I had <i>Duck Soup<\/i> over I had marching soldiers singing &#8220;Hail, Hail Freedonia&#8221; in here for days. Actual days.<\/p>\n<p>So we&#8217;ll stick with the races this time.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:12px;\"><em>Booklist<\/em> was first past the post this time with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booklistonline.com\/Patently-Absurd-The-Files-of-the-Retropolis-Registry-of-Patents-Bradley-W-Schenck\/pid=9357273\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">their review<\/a>: \n<blockquote style=\"width:224px;margin-left:28px;font-style:italic;font-size:18px;\"><p>It\u2019s all lighthearted fun and wild invention, but Schenck takes a serious turn in the final story, which brings touching depth to his main characters. A great follow-up to <em>Slaves of the Switchboard of Doom<\/em> (2017). <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But they were soon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfrevu.com\/php\/Review-id.php?id=17837\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">overtaken by SFRevu<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Patently Absurd<\/em> may not be serious science fiction, but it&#8217;s great stuff, and it&#8217;s stuffed with the tropes that made the pulp era pulsate like a mutant alien squid, albeit with a nod towards modern sensibilities. Maybe, in its own way, it is serious science fiction, camouflaged as whimsy. No matter what you decide to call it, it\u2019s fun.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And then, like a death ray out of nowhere, came <a href=\"http:\/\/paulsemel.com\/exclusive-interview-patently-absurd-author-bradley-w-schenck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Semel&#8217;s interview with me<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I wanted to do something with ordinary people whose jobs made them interact with the mad scientists in the Experimental Research District. So I thought about accountants. I don\u2019t think about accountants that often. I mean, you don\u2019t, do you?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The field&#8217;s still wide open: it&#8217;s anybody&#8217;s race at this point. Look! There&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/utopia-state-of-mind.com\/review-patently-absurd-bradley-w-schenck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Utopia State of Mind<\/a>, racing &#8217;round the bend! And you can&#8217;t forget the <em>Toronto Star<\/em>, where they loved <em>Slaves of the Switchboard of Doom<\/em>; that review will be here on Saturday.
