That&#8217;s a scene I started working on in 2004 and plugged away at for quite awhile (in the shadow of the then Day Job). I dusted it off and found to my surprise that it only took about a week to finish it up.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Oddly (or not) I once lived just around the corner from a coffee shop called Astro in LA&#8217;s Silverlake neighborhood; and there was a hostess there who was not unlike Mabel, in some ways. But although I <em>did once see a rocket go by<\/em>, I never saw anyone wearing goggles in there.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">This one&#8217;s available as an <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.webomator.com\/Retropolis_Prints_Just_Around_the_Corner.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">archival print<\/a>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.webomator.com\/cgi-bin\/cpshop_posters.cgi?i=retropolis_posters\/bws01.395357013\/-\/3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poster<\/a>, on <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.webomator.com\/cgi-bin\/cpshop_posters.cgi?i=retro_books\/retro_books\/-\/3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blank books<\/a>, and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zazzle.com\/just_around_the_corner_postcard-239701597142995516?gl=Retropolis_Travel&amp;rf=238134783800639800\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">postcard<\/a> &#8211; the sort of impulse buy you&#8217;re likely to make at the counter, no?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s the first of what I think will be three pictures set in my retro-futuristic Astro cafe.
